Cosmetic function
The essence is obtained by pressing the zest of the fruit. It has a fresh, sweet, fruity and characteristic fragrance (top note). Also used in aromatherapy to calm nerves and as an antidepressant, applied to the skin it helps stimulate the metabolism, eliminate fluid retention and firm body tissue.
Description
An evergreen tree which belongs to the Rutaceae (citrus) family, originating from the Far East, particularly China and North Burma, it is characterised by glossy bright green oval leaves, scented white flowers, traditionally associated with purity, and orange/yellow fruit with edible flesh, the zest of which is used to make the essential oil.
Notes
The Chinese call the orange tree “chin-ch’in”, which means “golden ball”, due to the colour of its fruit, and it is considered a symbol of happiness and prosperity. According to ancient beliefs, the scent of orange essential oil is said to make women more seductive and lovable, helping them to attract men’s attention.
