Cosmetic function
The essential oil is obtained by steam distilling flowered lavender tips. It is characterised by a fresh, floral, herbaceous, sweet, balsamic fragrance (middle note) with relaxing, antiseptic and healing properties.
Description
An evergreen shrub belonging to the Labiatae family, characterised by flowers grouped into scented slender blue-violet ears. It originates from Southern Europe, where it grows spontaneously in mountainous and sunny areas and stony ground.
Notes
The name “lavender” comes from the Latin verb lavare (to wash), because in ancient times, the flowers of this plant were added to bath water to scent the skin or used to scent freshly washed laundry and keep insects away.
